Hiromu had always known he’d be sent to the manor on the hill. He’d known since he was a child. The first time he’d seen one of the villagers having their hair tipped with blood red, and dressed in white, he’d known that one day that would be him. He’d told his mother that when he was all of eight, and she’d dropped to her knees, and cried in his hair. The next year, he’d said the same thing, and again his mother had cried. For ten years, she’d cried in his hair.
